Walt & Ernie’s Barbershop has been located in the Davison building on Old Nugget Alley since 1938.

By the 1970s, Walt and Ernie had retired and the Hanover barber shop was owned by Carley Massey - who started cutting hair at Walt & Ernie’s in 1954.

From the 1980s until recently, the shop was owned by Bob Trottier, who became an employee at Walt & Ernie’s Barbershop in 1957. 

In true Walt & Ernie’s fashion, the ownership torch was passed in January of 2022 to another long time Walt & Ernie’s employee - Carol Eastman. Carol started her career at the barbershop with Bob back in 1992. She credits her desire to continue offering the same great services the Dartmouth Community and Upper Valley have come to know to Bob’s mentorship, kindness and friendship. 

This authentic four-chair barbershop is rich in Dartmouth College, and Hanover, NH history, and offers quality haircuts with friendly service. The hairstyles may have changed, but the true Hanover barbershop experience has stayed the same!
